Management Bodies

DTC Board : The key contribution of the DTC Board is to ensure that value is obtained in the DTC for the investment of government funding, by providing overall direction of research policy, strategy and management. The DTC Board is accountable for governance of all the activities undertaken under the auspices of the DTC.

The Board comprises the DTC Board Chairman, the DTC Technical Director, senior technical representatives of the DTC partner organisations who are leading areas of DTC work, two representatives of the MoD, and the DTC Programme manager, who acts as secretary.

Management Integrated Project Team (IPT) : The key contribution of the Management IPT is to ensure that a balanced and integrated research programme is developed and maintained across the DTC and that it is then delivered effectively.

The Management IPT comprises the DTC Technical Director, the Programme Manager, Research Theme Leaders, Systems Engineering Framework Team Leaders and representatives of other consortium partners who are making a significant financial contribution to the DTC.

DTC Office : The DTC Office comprises the DTC Technical Director, the DTC Programme Manager and the DTC's administrative and commercial support staff. The DTC Office supports the members of the DTC Board and oversees the operation of the Management IPT to ensure the smooth running and administration of the Consortium, working to deliver this within the auspices of a Shared Data Environment.

Research Advisory Board : The Research Advisory Board ensures that the DTC benefits from the best available insights into the capability requirements for future autonomous systems, and future technology research to meet those requirements.

The advice from this Board helps to establish the research strategy for the DTC, align it with other activities, and identify new potential research topics and key researchers. It also identifies additional potential exploitation pathways in both the civil and military sectors. It has an independent chairman and members who are not directly involved in the DTC programme.

In addition to the chairman, its initial membership is drawn from academia, the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, MoD, Dstl and the Police Information Technology Organisation. The Technical Director attends the Research Advisory Board.

Requirements Group : The requirements group ensures that views of key experts in the fields of UK future defence strategy, operational concepts and doctrine are engaged in the process of defining key challenges to be addressed by DTC research, and in the process of review and prioritisation of proposed research to address these challenges.

Systems Engineering Advisory Group : The Systems Engineering Advisory Group consists of members of the consortium partner companies with significant systems engineering expertise. The group provides the Technical Director with advice on the DTC’s systems engineering activities and on exploitation opportunities requiring a systems engineering collaboration between DTC organisations.
